”Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck getting dirty and gritty”. That's a great rhyme by The Lovin’ Spoonful. In their equally cheerful and nostalgic hit “Summer in the city” from 1966 they complained about something that is probably familiar to a lot of us who have to endure the hottest of the seasons far from idyllic destinations.
When we are trapped in an urban landscape during the long hot summer days, everything seems to move at a slower pace and all we can think about is when night finally arrives and it’s liveable outside again. Then it’s when we get out and have all the fun we all deserve. And so the song goes on: “Cool town, evening in the city, dressing so fine and looking so pretty”.
If you happen to be stuck in a deserted city these days, you may find solace in the fact that you are not the only one in this situation. In fact, it’s during these weird summer days when most fun and surreal things tend to happen.
